Walking Venice

October 18, 2015

Walking Venice

We spent the day walking around Venice and eating some good food.  We were able to eat a cold breakfast here at the Airbnb home, which the hosts provided, before we headed over to Venice. Today we took the train rather than the bus. We were also able to get our train tickets worked out for Firenze (Florence) and Roma. We are going to stop in Assisi on the way to Rome from Florence.

Anyway, we walked to different parts of Venice, went through many churches (the churches here are endless), a few museums (a wonderful music one), ate some gelato (chocolate and lemon), did a little shopping and a lot of window shopping. Everything is rather pricey here but they have about anything that you would want. Getting the products to the stores would be problematic, however, since the streets are canals.

This city is filled with Murano glass stores and shops that sell Venetian lace. The glass is blown on the island of Murano and the lace is made on the island of Burano, both islands of Venice. Since it was Sunday, many places and shops were closed but there were still scores of people walking around including those from at least four cruise ships.

The day was pleasant and only a few raindrops fell right when we were ready to go home. After we arrived at our train station, back on the mainland, we stopped at the ATM and at a place to get some pasta, which we hadn’t had since our Italy arrival. We had spaghetti carbonara which was wonderful.

Venice is an exciting, interesting, one of a kind city; well worth the visit. Tomorrow, we are on the move again . . . on to Florence.
